Bees and other pollinators play a very important role because according to statistics, almost one third of the food we eat relies on pollination by bees and other pollinating insects.
So that’s why this coming Saturday July 7th, 2018, the Bridgewater Community Gardens Team will be working on a very special project called “The Bees Needs” Pollinator Garden at Aberdeen Green in Bridgewater.
The group behind the new project have been busy as bees, working hard to design the garden specifically suited to pollinators.
“There are lots of nectar rich plants for bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, and they’re planted in large blocks which helps to attract the pollinators and also provide them with a really consistent food source,” says Chris Sanford, Bridgewater Community Garden Coordinator.
The public are invited to come out Saturday morning and show their green thumbs by helping plant flowers, and weed at the group’s first planting work party at Aberdeen Green starting at 10am, and everyone is welcome to stop by.
