Four South Shore Youth To Represent at Legion Track and Field Nationals

Next month, young athletes from across the country will compete at the 42nd Annual Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Track and Field Competition in Brandon, Manitoba.

Lunenburg native, Evelyn Ferguson, is one of four athletes from the South Shore representing Nova Scotia.

And for Ferguson, training hard for her biggest competition so far has been exciting; it started in Grade 6 when her teacher convinced her to go to her school tryouts and the rest they say is history.

“I go into Halifax three times a week to train, I love it,” says an excited Ferguson. “It’s the biggest competition that I’ve been in so far, so I’m really excited.”

Bridgewater native, Nick Landry, is also one of the four athletes from the South Shore representing Nova Scotia.

Landry tells Acadia News, after working so hard, it’s amazing to finally make it this far and says having four athletes from the South Shore make the team, is quite remarkable.

“It’s pretty cool, and I mean the South Shore isn’t a big area so having four people from there, is actually pretty good,” says Landry, adding, “I’m just glad that I made it and really, I can’t stop training now because I’ve been doing it the whole time.”

Also representing the South Shore, are Taylor Goodick (Shelburne) and Chelsea MacIsaac (Greenfield).

The 2018 Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Track & Field Competition runs from August 10th through 12th, 2018 in Brandon, Manitoba.
