A public outcry has Chester Municipal Council changing course.
Council had approved the use of shipping containers on properties outside of the village, on the north side of Highway 3.
Over the past months they’ve heard from residents who want them gone.
Warden Allen Webber says they’re doing as the public asks.
“At the end of the day, land-use policy is meant to provide the citizens in the community with the type of planning they want, and they’re opposed to them. So that’s the long and the short of it.”
Webber says people felt the containers didn’t leave visitors with a good impression.
“One or two, nobody was really objecting to, but if you allowed them by right or with a permit than they felt that they would start popping up in locations and in numbers that would detract from the character of the village.”
Webber says council will rescind their approval and ban the use of shipping containers at a public meeting being held tomorrow morning.
