Chester Dump Fire Under Control

The Kaizer Meadows landfill is closed due to a fire.

Staff called 9-1-1 after discovering the blaze around 6:45 this morning and several fire departments are working to put it out.

Communications Officer with the Municipality of Chester Jennifer Webber says at this point crews have the fire under control.

“A lot of it at the moment is steam. The heavy smoke is, not going to say gone, but it is diminished greatly. They caught it at a good time.”

Webber says waste collection will continue today as scheduled.

She says no-one was injured and once the fire is extinguished an investigation will be conducted to determine the cause.
