Clare Golf Club Member Austin Connelly In Contention At Open Championship

A golfer who started playing the game at Clare Golf and Country Club is making some noise at The Open Championship in England.

Austin Connelly sits in a tie for sixth after 36 holes at Royal Birkdale and will play the weekend.

He is tied with Rory McIlroy and sits five shots back of the lead.

Board member at Clare, Claude Comeau, says it’s incredible to see Connelly competing with the world’s best.

“Everyone, especially our Junior program, they are very ecstatic. They are all motivated and watching with great anticipation. Everyone is excited to see the process and everything going so well for him.”

Connelly has dual Canada-U.S citizenship and is also resides in Texas.

The 20 year-old professional has two top 10 finishes so far this season on the European Tour.

Connelly is paired with Richie Ramsay in Saturday’s third round in the third-to-last group to tee off.

The tournament finishes on Sunday.
