Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Lands At Yarmouth Airport, Visits Shelburne and Port Joli

It’s a chance many may never get again, to see the Prime Minister up close.

Justin Trudeau, his wife Sophie and his children arrived in Nova Scotia today, landing at the Yarmouth International Airport just after 11am.

Many people in town noticed a ten plus car motorcade, and clued in that the PM would be arriving in Yarmouth.

Trudeau came over to the fenced off area, posing for pictures with a few excited citizens.

The motorcade was then off to Shelburne, to the Islands Provincial Park.

The Trudeau’s’ met with children there and camp counselors, and shook hands and took selfies with well over 150 people.

He also spoke about Canada’s Child Tax Benefit.

Trudeau says he was enjoying Shelburne very much.

“It’s great, the welcome is wonderful and warm as one would always expect here in Shelburne.”

West Nova MP Colin Fraser says having Trudeau in Nova Scotia is great.

“It’s great to have him and his family here, to see this beautiful park in Shelburne and meet everybody. We are very glad he’s here.”

The Trudeau’s then moved on to Keji’s Seaside Park in Port Joli.

Tomorrow, they will take part in the Halifax Pride Parade.

The Prime Minister’s arrival to Southwestern Nova Scotia had many admirers extremely excited.

As he posed for selfies with citizens in Yarmouth and Shelburne, many were overcome with joy that they got close to Justin Trudeau.

This woman in Shelburne says she was a student nurse at the Ontario hospital where Trudeau was born in 1971.

“I’ve always wanted to meet Justin, and I’ve always had an affinity for him. I’ve felt very close to him. It was wonderful to meet him!”

Another woman from Scotland says she was pleased to see someone so popular make their way to the small town.

“It’s really nice to meet somebody that’s so popular in Canada. I’m just so pleased that he came all the way to Shelburne, because not many people in his portfolio do.”

It’s the first time in many years that a sitting Prime Minister has visited our region.
