Cleanup Nabs 70 Kilograms Of Waste From Cape LaHave Island

Cape LaHave Island in Lunenburg County is now squeeky clean.

More than a dozen people recently helped collect trash and recyclables around the island.

It also involved Cape LaHave Adventures and officials with the District of Lunenburg.

Recreation Coordinator Janice Rand says it was successful.

“We knew there were some areas that needed some clean-up too, but as you can imagine to remove waste from an island takes a little bit more effort because you have to load it on a boat and bring it to shore.”

Other garbage was found including old folding lawn chairs, tents, and fishing debris like lobster traps and parts from a boat.

Many people kayak around the island during this time of year.

Rand says the cleanup is important to show off the local scenery.
