A community is rallying to send a local athlete’s biggest supporters to Japan.
Lunenburg native Madison Beck will represent Canada at the World Under-18 Women’s Hockey Championships in January.
Hockey Canada will cover all her travel costs but her parents are on their own to get there.
Lisa Tanner has organized a GoFundMe page to help get them to Japan.
She says they shouldn’t miss seeing their daughter represent her country at the highest level.
“As a parent, I just can’t imagine sending your 17-year-old to Japan for the tournament of her life and not being able to go. It’s the parents’ biggest joy and it’s the child’s biggest wish.”
Madison Beck is currently at school in New Hampshire.
She greatly appreciates that people are making this effort to help during the busy holiday season.
“I know Christmas can be a hard time because so many families are already putting out money, trying to support and have a great Christmas. And, just that someone is trying to do this for us, it’s just incredible.”
