The winners of the 2017 Shelburne County Community and Business Excellence Awards were presented last night.
Simply Country Decor, North East Point, was the recipient of the Artisan Entrepreneur Award.
Capt. Kat’s Lobster Shack, Barrington Passage got the Rising Star Award.
I. Deveau Fisheries Ltd., North East Point, received the Exporter of the Year Award.
H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes & Crematorium Ltd., Shelburne received the Small Business of the Year Award.
Smith & Watt Ltd., Barrington Passage was the recipient of the Large Business of the Year.
Dixie Redman executive director of the CBDC in Shelburne says the awards are much appreciated by the business community in Shelburne County.
“We’re telling our business community how much we absolutely appreciate the contributions that they make to our community every year. When we have these awards we see what a wonderfully diverse community we have and how entrepreneurial they are.”
There were two new awards this year: Artisan Entrepreneur and Rising Star.
The awards banquet was held at the River Hills Golf & Country Club.
The Shelburne County Community and Business Excellence Awards is supported by the CBDC-Shelburne, Nova Scotia Community College, Nova Scotia Business Inc., Nova Scotia Works, Municipality of the District of Barrington, Municipality of the District of Shelburne, the Town of Shelburne and the Barrington and Shelburne Chambers of Commerce.

Fashion Fix Beauty Services, Barrington Passage, and Roscoe Ironworks, Shelburne were finalists in the Artisan Entrepreneur Award category.
Freedom Canoe & Kayak, Woods Harbour and Lydgate Lock, Stock & Barrel General Store Ltd., Lockeport were also finalists in the Rising Star Award category.
A & C Auto Repair Ltd., Shelburne, and Spencer’s Garden Centre, Shelburne were also finalists for the Small Business of the Year Award.
Sea Star Seafoods Ltd., Clark’s Harbour was also a finalist in the Large Business of the Year Award category.
