A unique consignment store in Lunenburg taps into the charitable side of everyone involved.
Cheryl Lamerson came up with a concept that gives new meaning to non-profit.
At The Lunenburg Community Consignment Shop, when something sells, 50% goes back to the consigner, 30% is used to operate the store and 20% goes to the charities of the volunteers who run the store.
Lamerson has tallied up the sales and will spread the proceeds among 40 local charities.
“$38,392 in just over three years. If this was a store that was profit making, that would be what the profit would be,” explains Lamerson.
The store has grown from a 600 square foot shop, to 36-hundred square feet of household items and furniture.
Even the building’s owner is giving to the cause. Rent is based on a percentage of sales throughout the year.
