Construction Begins On New Blockhouse Fire Station

The shovels have hit the ground for a new fire hall in Blockhouse.

Construction is underway by Parsons ICF of Italy Cross to build a new energy efficient and accessible station.

It will cost just over $800,000.

Chief Paula MacDonald says their existing station has issues with its roof and floor that would cost a lot to fix.

“When we did our homework, we discovered that it really would be more efficient to start with a new building as opposed to spending all those dollars on an old building and still have it as non-wheelchair accessible.”

MacDonald expects if all goes right, the new station will be built in eight months.

Fundraising and ratepayers tax dollars are covering the cost of the facility.
