Discovering Art on a Rainy Day

There is a buzz around the arts community about a new initiative coming to Bridgewater.

‘Placemaking’ inspires people to collectively reimagine and reinvent public spaces as the heart of every community.

A team is hosting a rain art project on June 30.

Councillor Jennifer McDonald says environmentally-safe paint called ‘Rainworks’ will be used to draw unique designs on King Street.

“Designs are painted on the surface of the sidewalk and they will remain invisible on a sunny but will be revealed through the contrast of wet and dry pavement on rainy days. They are a bit of a hidden secret and only become visible in the rain.”

The art will last for roughly 2-4 months.

A local artist will facilitate the workshop focusing on a water related theme.

The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg and Visual Arts of Nova Scotia helped contribute funding for the project.

Bridgewater Mayor, David Mitchell, says it’s a great project.

He says it will be neat to see art come alive once it starts raining.

“Some of those boutique shops tend to see a downturn in foot traffic when the weather turns and so this is, perhaps, another way to get people out and about in the downtown.”

Mitchell says the town wants to attract people and believes this will fulfill the goal.
