The NDP and PC say the current school review system in Nova Scotia needs a change.
PC Leader Jamie Baillie says the department of education should be responsible for deciding school closures, not local school boards.
NDP Leader Gary Burrill says if his party forms the next government, they would place a moratorium on school closures.
Stephen McNeil says a Liberal government will immediately pause all school review processes that do not involve facility replacement.
He says schools already scheduled to close would still move forward.
The Liberals and PC have also announced a need to review school boards to find cost-savings.
The NDP are proposing to work with communities to provide funding for the development of hub school pilot projects.
