As school begins to wind down, help is on the way for next year.
The Telus Atlantic Canada Community Ambassador Program have donated 100 backpacks filled with school supplies to Bluenose Academy in Lunenburg.
Each May and June for the past two years, the program has been working behind the scenes to provide help in communities across the region.
Local representative Julie Senior recently retired from Telus but is still an active Ambassador.
“It’s good to give back to the community, and it’s great to be a part of something a little bit bigger than yourself. We give where we live and I truly believe that.”
Senior says each year she makes calls to find out who can use the kits.
“The Bluenose Academy was thrilled to have them and wanted all one hundred of them. So that’s great – we’re able to help out one hundred kids in the community this year.”
Principal Steven McGill says the number is more than they would usually take.
But that the school bags will be available for any student who needs one.
Senior says they’ve provided care kits to shelters and food banks, volunteered to monitor races and even built a bee garden.
She’s excited to get the school supplies into then hands of kids who can use them.
