Downtown Bridgewater Facade Program Moving Forward

Businesses in downtown Bridgewater could be getting a makeover.

A proposed facade program has made it into budget discussions.

The idea would see the town help business owners on King Street renovate their building exterior by matching money spent up to $5,000.

Councillor Jennifer MacDonald says this program is the perfect addition to the work already planned for downtown.

“If we’re doing the downtown why aren’t we investing in the buildings. A brand new downtown only goes so far if some of the buildings are looking pretty shabby,” she says. “The whole goal is to put feet on the street and spending time in the downtown. You know, if King Street is torn up and there’s going to be disruptions it may be a good time for a facade program and renovations.”

MacDonald is optimistic the proposal will be approved.

An information meeting about the program will be held on May 5th at Town Hall.
