Education Minister Says African Nova Scotian Community Is At The Table In Education Reform Transition

The minister of education has promised the concerns expressed by African Nova Scotians over the new education system are not falling on deaf ears.

The Black Educators Association of Nova Scotia held a meeting this week to talk about being left out of the process and having basic rights taken away with the elimination of elected school boards.

Zach Churchill says his focus as minister is to achieve positive outcomes for students.

“The current model has not addressed major concerns in terms of the the achievement gap and outcomes for African Nova Scotians so we have to do better.”

He says the African Nova Scotian and the Mi’kmaq communities will be at the table.
