A major storm Thursday will bring hurricane force winds to our region with maximum gusts up to 140 km/h over southwestern areas by the afternoon.
It will be mainly a rain event in Western Nova Scotia and along the South Shore with amounts in the 30 to 40 mm range..
Environment Canada Meteorologist Linda Libby says snowfall amounts in inland areas are only expected to be around 10 cms.
But with the very strong winds, coastal areas are warned of storm surges and high waves..
Environment Canada says during high tide Thursday night, water levels along the Atlantic coast will be elevated enough to cause coastal flooding in vulnerable areas.
It says very large waves coming in to the coast from the south will contribute to the high water and will likely cause some damage to coastal infrastructure.
