The mayor of Clark’s Harbour is feeling positive for what 2018 will bring to his small town.
While Leigh Stoddart says the town of about 760 has it’s challenges, he says the people are resilient and have a strong will.
Mayor Stoddart says the population numbers will show improvement.
“We have people coming in here from Ontario, British Columbia, the U-S and other places because housing is relatively cheap and they’re finding that other areas of the South Shore where they would like to live it’s pretty expensive like, Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, those kinds of places.”
Stoddart says it remains difficult to attract new business to Clark’s Harbour because of the relatively high business tax rate and the lack of transportation infrastructure.
But he says the tax base has remained stable and traditional industries like fishing and boat building remain vibrant.
“I don’t see Clark’s Harbour needing to amalgamate, at least not in the foreseeable future.”
Mayor Stoddart says he and the council will also begin preparations this year for a special event in 2019…Clark’s Harbour’s 100th anniversary.
