Environmental Group Concerned About Straight Pipes

Raw sewage dumped into the LaHave River continues to cause concern.

And while the installation of central systems over time has helped, Brooke Nodding, executive director of Bluenose Coastal Action Foundation says there’s still a long way to go.

“Some people may be under the false impression that it gets flushed away, but that’s not true. The estuary still has tides, it has ebbs and flows but depending on the time of day and who is flushing the toilet it is still there and it’s persistent.”

Nodding would like to see all levels of government help homeowners with the cost of replacing or fixing septic systems.

BCAF tests and posts weekly results of the levels of fecal contamination of the LaHave River estuary.
