Fay Not Attending Champions Cup To Focus On School

Mary Fay’s curling team will square off against the best women’s teams in the world.

However, one thing will be missing; Mary Fay.

The 17 year-old will not attend the Champions Cup in Sherwood Park, Alberta in order to study for upcoming International Baccalaureate exams at Park View Education Centre.

Her team qualified after winning the world junior curling title in March in Denmark.

Fay says it’s disappointing.

“It would have been a great opportunity, a great experience but at the same time I still need to make it through high school and make sure I take care of my education. That’s my number one priority.”

The team features Kristin Clarke as skip along with regulars Karlee Burgess, Janique LeBlanc and alternate Sarah Daniels of B.C.

They will play their first game this afternoon against this year’s Canadian women’s champion, Chelsea Carey of Alberta.

Fay is coming off a huge year with gold medals at the Nova Scotia and Canadian Junior Curling Championships and Youth Winter Olympics.
