Three local facilities are getting federal funding for upgrades.
Today, West Nova MP Colin Fraser announced an investment of $145,000 in Th’YARC Playhouse, the Yarmouth Golf and Country Club and the Yarmouth Lions Club.
Th’YARC will get over $84,000 for work including expanding and re-paving the parking lot, insulation and replacing doors.
The Municipality of Yarmouth will also contribute $75,000 and the Yarmouth Regional Arts Council is giving over $9,500.
YARC President Mitch Bonnar says the work goes hand-in-hand with efforts to construct a new building on the site.
“When this building eventually comes down, it will become part of the parking lot, so our challenge is to engineer it correctly so it’s not a waste of any government dollars or our dollars or anybody elses dollars to make it part of the project.”
Th’YARC is currently located on Parade Street, and has 550 members.
Also, $43,500 will go to the Yarmouth Golf and Country Club for reconstruction of the fourth hole, new tee boxes for shorter hitters, repairs to the clubhouse and accessibility upgrades.
At the Lions Club, just over $17,000 is being provided for replacement of 25 windows, as well as entrance and exit doors.
West Nova MP Colin Fraser made the announcement and says it’s important for citizens to know that government cares about sports and recreation.
“I’m proud of these organizations and making sure that they are supported. It was a great announcement today, there is more work to do but this is a great start for our community infrastructure program.”
Both the Lions Club and Yarmouth Golf and Country Club are matching the funding given to them by the federal government.
