Federal Government Commits $1-Million To Lunenburg Academy

Lunenburg Academy will be sporting a shiny new look.

South Shore-St. Margarets MP Bernadette Jordan was in Lunenburg today to announce Parks Canada has pledged up to $1-million for upkeep on the exterior of the historic building.

This follows $1-million the province contributed to the Academy earlier this year.

Jordan says its important to preserve and re-purpose an important piece of Lunenburg’s heritage

“The Academy is such an icon in Lunenburg, actually in Nova Scotia, and so to be able to support it and making sure it continues to be that icon is important.”

The work includes updating and repairing windows, doors, siding, trim and paint.

Town council awarded the tender at last night’s meeting.

Work on the Academy will begin immediately.
