Feds Funding World Jr. Curling Championships In Liverpool

Curling fever is already taking over Liverpool.

The 2019 World Junior Championships will be held at Queens Place Emera Centre in February 2019.

South Shore St. Margaret’s MP Bernadette Jordan was in Liverpool Saturday to see the logo unveiled and to announce $150,000 in federal funding.

Jordan says government is glad to contribute to such a worthwhile event.

“I said we would do everything we could because it does fit within the perfect slot for economic growth, supporting tourism, supporting youth, supporting small rural communities. It’s got all the tick boxes.”

Jordan says the funding, coming through an ACOA grant will benefit Liverpool for years to come.

“This is going to increase our economic footprint through tourism, through bringing all of these people here. Liverpool is now a place where, it’s going to be known all around the world for its curling, which is amazing.”

The province and Region of Queens had previously committed $150,000 and $50,000 respectively.

The remaining $200,000 needed to put on the event is being raised through the Host Society and its partners.
