Firefighters Tackle Fire On Former HMCS Protecteur

Firefighters from four departments were called to the Port Mersey Commercial Park early this evening after a report of a vessel on fire.
Liverpool Fire Chief Steven Parnell says they were paged to the scene in Brooklyn around 5:05 p.m.
He confirms there was a fire in a fuel tank of the former HMCS Protecteur.
The vessel arrived in Liverpool last April to be dismantled by R.J MacIsaac Construction Ltd., based out of Antigonish
Parnell says the fire was in a difficult area of the vessel to get to, with crews needing about four hours on scene before they wrapped up.
The fire was contained to one tank and there were no injuries.
A cause has not been determined but Parnell says people were working on dismantling the former HMCS Protecteur when firefighters were called to the scene.
Port Medway, North Queens and Greenfield firefighters were also involved.
