Fishing Boat Crew Member Airlifted To Halifax

An injured crew member was airlifted from a fishing vessel off western Nova Scotia yesterday.

Joint Task Force Atlantic says the boat was located approximately 35 nautical miles northeast of Yarmouth.

Air Coordinator Captain Zach Sawyer says the initial call came from Coast Guard radio at 8:26 a.m.

“We immediately tasked the Candian Coast Guard cutter ‘Spray’ which was at the lifeboat station (in) Westport. We also tasked a Hercules C-130 from Greenwood Air Force base and a CH-149 Cormorant also from Greenwood.”

Sawyer says the critically injured crew member was hoisted into the helicopter by search and rescue technicians, flown to the Windsor helicopter pad, which is part of CFB Halifax then transported by EHS ambulance to hospital in Halifax.

No other details are being released.
