Five People Rescued From Sinking Boat

Five people are safe and sound after a close call last night.

Around 7:30 the Coast Guard was sent help to a boat taking on water off the coast of Shelburne.

Stephen Bornais from the department of Fisheries and Oceans says another boat was able to step in before they got there.

“A nearby fishing vessel responded,” he says. “Took the five people on board. Those five people were transported to West Head on board the fishing vessel.”

The Coast Guard escorted them safely back to shore.

There is no word on whether the boat has been recovered.
