Fire crews have returned to fighting the forest fires near Kejimkujik National Park.
They continue to try to contain the fire which has so far consumed more than 100 hectares.
Trunk 8 is closed between Kejimkujik Park and Virginia Road as water bombers are flying over the area trying to dowse the flames.
From the south, local traffic is being diverted to Mersey River Lodge while from the north, people are being sent through View Lake.
People are asked to find an alternate route around the closure.
Department of Natural Resources Operation Manager Jim Rudderham says a few good days of rain is what’s needed to bring these fires under control.
“All these fires are burning very deep – like a couple of feet deep into the ground. So they have to dig them all out with water and shovels. It’s a lot of work to put them out.”
The fires are centered around Maitland Bridge and Seven Mile Lake.
Rudderham says people need to be careful in the forests.
“The woods in the Western Region are so dry right now that if a fire takes hold they’ll be days putting them out. And it’s unsafe and it’s just a lot of hard, hard work.”
Officials are asking people to avoid the area if they can.
