Kejimkujik Park Not Being Affected By Fires

Forest fires are burning nearby but Kejimkujik’s Visitor Experience Manager Sophie Borcoman says inside the park it’s pretty well business as usual.

“The park is still open for business and visitors are going about their daily activities. Just as I’m saying, be cautious about staying to the perimeter of the lake because of potentially some of the water bombing activity.”

Borcoman says fire crews are filling aircraft with water from the lake.

She says there is a fire ban in the park but the greatest impact has been on people just getting to Keji.

“There’ve been a couple of cancellations but mostly based on the fact of the road closure that people didn’t want to make the two-hour detour if they were already in Annapolis Royal.”

Trunk 8 is down to one lane before the park entrance with an escort vehicle to guide traffic through.

Borcoman says add a little time for your trip as it could take up to an extra hour to get through the lane closures.

The status of the park is updated on their facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/Kejimkujik/
