From driveway to forest: The strange afterlife of cars in Nova Scotia

One of my favourite things to do while walking or hiking in the woods is looking for abandoned cars. There are so many in Nova Scotia. For years, if something was too expensive to fix, people would drive it or drag it into the woods or an old field and leave it there forever! Scrap yards were not as common or affordable in rural Nova Scotia.

Now, there seems to be better access to recycling and scrap yards. I have found countless amazing old cars over the years, vehicles that are not just not made anymore, but brands I’ve never even heard of.

I found one recently with this badge. It’s from the late ’20s to early ’30s and is from a company that GM would pay to make car bodies. They used to make carriages! I also found what looks to be an old Pinto that was turned into a rally car!

Nova Scotia is far from the only place that has car graveyards in the woods but we have our fair share! If you’re interesting in seeing more join the “Abandoned Vehicles Maritimes

It’s interesting to think about how cars get where they lie now. It could have been someone’s first car, someone’s favorite possession. There’s lots of history rusting away in the woods of Nova Scotia!

Have you had any cool finds?
