Furey Expects Easier Voting Process After Legislature Fall Sitting

Improving the electoral process is one thing expected to be changed in the fall sitting of the Nova Scotia Legislature.

Fifty-one MLAs are back in province house including Liberal Mark Furey of Lunenburg West.

Voter turnout in the federal election was 68.5 per cent.

Furey says they want to try and carry that momentum into the municipal elections next fall.

“Finding improvements within the election process around residency, time of residency is really an effort to encourage greater participation in the electoral process at the municipal level.”

He says municipalities have reached out to the Department of Municipal Affairs for changes to make the process more efficient and effective.

There will also be legislation introduced to improve the province’s electricity system and enhance the graduated driver’s licensing program.
