Gardeners To Trade Crops For Brew

Gardeners on the South Shore could be growing ingredients for artisan beer without even knowing it.

Garrison Breweries wants your rhubarb.

President Brian Titus says he got the idea while trying to figure out what to do with the bitter plants that were taking over his own garden.

He says once the idea was sparked they knew they’d need help from local growers.

“You pluck it, you cut of the leaves off, you rinse it, you put it in a bag, you bring it on down and based on the weight we’re going to hand you what we call ‘Rhu Bucks’.” he says.

The ‘Rhu Bucks’ are worth about two dollars a pound.

He says they plan to use the crops to make a rhubarb beer expected to hit shelves this summer.
