Grass Fire In Lunenburg County

Another grass fire was sparked in Bridgewater this afternoon.

Northfield Fire Department responded to a home on Lower Branch Road just before noon.

Fire fighters were able to put the blaze out quickly.

However Fire Chief Darren Mullock says it could have been much worse.

He says people don’t realize how dry the ground is.

“You’ve got to check with DNR now everyday,” he says “and it will let you know if you can burn that day. But, all in all, if it’s windy you shouldn’t be burning at all.

The Department of Natural Resources posts burn restrictions each afternoon at 2 p.m.

The website provides a map that shows home owners where and when it’s safe to light a fire.
