Ground Search And Rescue Looking For Volunteers

A local search and rescue group is calling for help.

Lunenburg County Ground Search and Rescue says they’re having trouble keeping their membership numbers up.

The organization works to help find people who are lost in the woods and also assist in times of civil emergencies such as floods or fires.

Sherry Veinot has been involved for the past thirty years.

She says many of their members are getting older while others move away.

“Just to replace those people. We’ll just take all comers. And if someone’s not trained, you know, they do have to like the outdoors. That’s a plus.”

Veinot says it’s meaningful work.

“It’s a very, very satisfying feeling when you have that find, when you have that closure for that search. You’ve given the family some answers.”

Veinot says they provide training and require people to be available two evenings per month.
