Nova Scotians on wells will have the same access to water testing going forward.
The Nova Scotia Health Authority just announced water samples can now be dropped off at one of 35 locations across the province.
Nova Scotia Environment recommends well water be tested for bacteria every six months, and every two years for chemical parameters.
Environmental Lab Manager Randy Veinotte says the testing has always been available to HRM residents.
“When the Nova Scotia Health Authority formed, that actually gave us the thought process, if we have the ability to do the testing here in Central, why wouldn’t we offer it to every other resident across the province?”
Veinotte says changes to the administration of health care allowed for the change.
“If the Nova Scotia Health Authority wouldn’t have come together, it would’ve been a lot harder to try and do it with the individual health authorities. So I think with the NSHA forming, it actually opened up the lines of communication.”
Veinotte says over 11,000 samples were analyzed last year.
Because of the purchase of new equipment, he is confident the lab will be able to meet the increased demand.
