Help is on the way for the emergency department at Roseway Hospital.
Health Minister Leo Glavine met with councillors throughout the county on Monday afternoon.
It was announced a registered nurse, four new advanced-care paramedics and six fill-in physicians are expected to start in Shelburne by mid-November.
Mayor Karen Mattatall is hopeful it will make a difference.
“That should significantly reduce the number of closures at Roseway. I would hope it would eliminate them.”
Two new family doctors will also start next year.
The province also recently announced a new primary health-care collaborative centre in Shelburne and is investing $1.65 million in the centre.
Mattatall put in an additional request to the department.
“They give us regular updates on what’s going on with the clinic, with what’s going on with doctor recruitment, with ER nurse recruitment.”
The ER has been closed dozens of times in the past few months.
Over 150 people protested during the minister’s meeting in Shelburne.
Mattatall expects both sides to meet next month to discuss long-term and short-term plans.
