Hockey Gear Exchange Helps Get Kids In The Game

Local hockey players are finding it a little easier to make their way on to the ice.

The United Way of Lunenburg County just wrapped up its annual Hockey Gear Exchange at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre.

Coordinator at the United Way, Michael Graves says they managed to help a lot of people.

“It went really well. We outfitted quite a number of young players, kids just starting off as well as older kids just picking up a piece here and a piece there. Something they needed. So we are just absolutely thrilled.”

Graves says they plan to be even better prepared next time.

“Next year at the end of hockey, in March/April we’ll start collecting hockey equipment again. We’ll also collect it just before the season starts. And then we’re going to make that hockey equipment available, probably at the LCLC because it worked out so well there. It was just perfect, great location.”

Graves is glad unused equipment can get into the hands of people who need it.
