Internet Service Boost Coming to Chester

The Municipality of Chester is spending $150,000 to improve internet service for its residents.

The money will help construct seven tower sites including a main network in Chester Basin as early as September.

TNC Wireless will offer high speed service to more than 3,700 households in the New Ross, Chester Basin and Seffernville areas once the project is complete.

Warden Allen Webber says it’s welcome news.

“Even though this is only 10 megabytes of download/upload information, it’s about 85% higher than what they currently have in most of those locations.”

The six other towers will be in place between this fall and next September.

The $1.7-million project includes TNC Wireless paying $804,000 to cover costs associated with customer equipment and a $831,000 contribution from the federal government.

“It doesn’t solve all the problems in the municipality,” adds Webber.

“But it, we believe, will vastly improve service to many of our residents. It’s something they need and have been asking for.”
