Jordan Using New Role To Encourage Women To Get Involved in Politics

The first female MP to represent the South Shore – St. Margaret’s riding is tackling women’s issues.

Bernadette Jordan has joined the Status of Women Committee.

Jordan says she’s looking forward to the new opportunity and grateful for the responsibility.

One thing she wants to accomplish is getting more women involved.

“I do see a gap in the amount of women in leadership and I think that’s something we have to figure out, not in the immediate future though it’s important, but for the long-term. How do we get more women involved?”

Jordan is the only female MP in Nova Scotia.

She says she has many issues she wants to bring forward.

“One of the things I’m interested in is affordable housing in rural areas for women specifically. That’s something that I’m hoping we can look at as a committee.”

She says the new role is one more way to bring local issues to Ottawa.
