Kayakers Answer The Challenge For Charity

Kayakers will hit the water this weekend to raise money for a worthwhile cause.

Pleasant Paddling in Blue Rocks will host “The Challenge” an annual event to support KidsSport in Lunenburg County.

Owner Karl Marsters says the event is a fun, family-oriented event.

Marsters says it’s not a race and anyone can participate and have enjoy themselves.

“We’ve got people who are over 70 who have signed up. We have kids and parents. That’s how I’m paddling and have been for the last three years.”

He describes how he motivates his own daughter on the trip.

“Mid-paddle she said she needed to stop. So I asked her if she would still need to stop if I gave her more Smarties, and she said no. And then we finished without stopping. So the Smarties are important.”

Paddlers will set off from Saw Pit on Lunenburg’s back harbour, travelling 11 kilometres around the Lunenburg peninsula to the finish in Blue Rocks.

Marsters says the challenge will begin at 10:00am and there will be a meal at the end.
