UPDATE: Apartment Fire Near Main Shore Road, Yarmouth County

Multiple fire departments responded to a blaze at an apartment complex in Yarmouth County this afternoon.

It was at 10 Dearman Drive off Main Shore Road.

Witness Emma Comeau tells Acadia News she was driving by the residence and noticed smoke was coming from the building.

“And I saw fire coming from the building. It was my best friend’s building, so I figured I should stop and see if she was ok. She wasn’t there, but there were about three people in the house. About five of us stopped. They all got out safely.”

Comeau says she and the others pounded on the door.

She says the three in the building, two males and a female did not know the house was on fire.

There is no confirmation yet on injuries, but one witness says a man did receive some burns.

RCMP and EHS were also on scene, along with the Yarmouth, Port Maitland and Lake Vaughan fire departments.

Yarmouth Platoon Chief Lynn Seeley couldn’t confirm how many were in the building or if there were injuries.

He says it appears the fire began on the exterior of the building, and damage inside the six unit complex is minimal.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
