It took nearly 18 months but a bridge in Mahone Bay is being rebuilt.
The Kinburn Street bridge was declared unsafe in 2015.
Mayor Joe Feeney says since then the project has faced a series of challenges.
However, he says they had little choice but to keep pushing forward.
“I mean we could have chosen to leave it,” he says, “and if someone had gone through it and been killed I don’t think not doing it would have been a good option.”
The design for the new bridge includes an additional lane allowing for two way traffic.
The contract has been awarded to Bry-con Construction for just over $707,000.
Work is expected to be complete this summer
