Local Food Banks Thank People For Their Holiday Generosity

It’s no surprise Nova Scotia food banks are used more over the holidays.

At least 44,000 Nova Scotians rely on their services every year.

Coordinator for the Bridgewater Interchurch Food Bank John Biddle says he was happy to see donations spread evenly across the year.

“That would basically be the way to go,” he says.

“But we don’t turn anyone back, November or December, if that’s the way they want it [it’s] fine and dandy.”

It’s not always food they are looking for.

Biddle says they are looking for cash donations, as well as hygiene products and canned goods.

He says every little bit helps make somebody’s holiday better.

“It’s one of those things – you don’t want thanks because you get thanks in just seeing the smiles on the faces of the people who do show up and are so thankful that they are getting what they’re getting.”

Donations can be dropped off at Bridgewater Superstore to support the Interchurch Food Bank.

Sam’s No Frills will be accepting donations for New Germany’s Area food bank until Christmas Eve.
