Local Brownies and Guides will make sure Canadian troops feel appreciated this Christmas.
They’ve decided to adopt some members serving abroad.
The idea is part of a partnership between the Guides, the Greenwood Family Resource Centre and DesBrisay Museum.
Museum Director Lynette de Montreuil says the girls spent this week preparing their care-packages.
“The Brownies were just with me last night, and they made some Christmas ornaments and some cards as well. Some pop-up cards with some trees.”
de Montreuil says they are pleased to help make the connection.
“It’s especially important during the holidays to provide that support when it’s difficult to be away from home. So they create Christmas parcels.”
de Montreuil says the project is good way for the kids to learn about the sacrifices past generations have made.
She says the Greenwood Family Resource Centre will ensure the soldiers receive the packages in time for the holidays.
The DesBrisay Museum will also host a Remembrance Day Celebration this Saturday.
The event will feature a talk from Dan Hennessy as well as a showing of the video, “A Time to Remember” and some refreshments.
The celebration gets underway at 2:00pm.
