Lunenburg: Funeral Scheduled For Longest Serving Fire Chief

A funeral will be held this week for the longest serving chief of the Lunenburg Fire Department.

David James Beck passed away July 6 at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital.

He was 83 years-old.

Beck joined the fire department in 1957, became chief in 1974 and served in that capacity until 1990.

He was very active in sports; playing softball, hockey and participating on three maritime championship firefighters track teams.

Beck also served as president of the Lunenburg Curling Club and won six provincial firefighters curling championships.

A funeral service is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m at Zion Lutheran Church in Lunenburg.
