The Lunenburg soccer field is the latest casualty of this summer’s dry weather.
In fact, President of the West Nova Fuels/Lunenburg Soccer Club, Sherry Ritcey says the field was considered the worst in the county.
“Our field was so dry that I think I could’ve actually lit a match to it and it would’ve burnt,” said Ritcey. “And the other fields were dry but this here actually crunched when you walked on it. Just smelled like when you cut a hay field.”
The soccer club doesn’t want to repeat those conditions next year.
They’ve been given permission by the town to install an irrigation system.
The soccer club will be fundraising to pay for the irrigation system and the town will provide the water hook up.
Ritcey hopes to have the installation complete by early spring so the season won’t be interrupted next summer.
