The Town of Mahone Bay will explore amalgamation with neighbouring municipalities.
Council voted 4-3 in favour of pursuing the concept.
Mayor Joe Feeney says it’s time to see what the other municipalities have to say.
“If they are interested in engaging with us, so much the better. If they are not, it’s pretty much a dead issue.”
Feeney believes amalgamation would provide sustainable services while saving money.
Meantime, Councillor John Bain was hoping for more public consultation.
“It didn’t have to go into a lot of detail…but ask the question does Mahone Bay want to go into some form of amalgamation for lack of a better term.”
The decision to move forward was made during a special council meeting this afternoon in Mahone Bay.
Amalgamation between Bridgewater, Lunenburg and MODL has been an ongoing discussion for the last few years.
