Bridgewater’s first Syrian family is being helped by a volunteer interpreter.
Mohamed El-Kateb says he feels a special responsibility to help the new residents.
“It will be difficult for a while to learn how we live in Canada,” he says. “That’s going to be a challenge for them.”
El-Kateb moved here from Lebanon in 1956.
He says the South Shore is home for him now and he hopes it will be the same for the refugees.
El-Kateb says they’ve already expressed how grateful they are to be welcomed by the community.
He says they’re excited to start their new life.
