Man Overboard Training Coming To The South Shore

Local fishers will be taking the plunge this week.

The Fisheries Safety Association of Nova Scotia is holding man overboard drills across the region.

Safety Advisor Matthew Duffy says the events are used to educate crews about firefighting, the proper use of PFDs, how to don a survival suit and how to perform a man overboard rescue.

“I’ve been aboard several boats since September and I’ve been asking the question, ‘Who here has thrown a life ring before?’ And nine times out of ten no-one has. Practicing using this equipment makes yourself more familiar with it.”

The courses will take place tomorrow at wharves in Moose Harbour, Port Medway and Bayport beginning at 9:00am with another course being offered in Digby neck Wednesday.
