Mayor Christopher Clarke Looks Back On 20 Years Of Amalgamation

The Region of Queens is celebrating the anniversary of their amalgamation.

This weekend will mark 20 years since the Town of Liverpool and the Municipality of Queens County came together.

Mayor Christopher Clark says he has no regrets.

“I was the first mayor of the newly amalgamated region,” he says. “We worked very hard to pull the two units together. I think it’s been very very positive for Queens.”

Clark says it wasn’t an easy decision at the time.

“It was a struggle in Queens and it was a struggle for a few years, but, I’m convinced it was the right decision to have made.”

Clark says having less councillors allows them to make decisions quickly and towards a unified goal.

He says all of their communities are able to work together with out loosing individual identity.
