The Nova Scotia government is making safety improvements to an iconic landmark.
The changes at Peggy’s Cove include enhanced safety signs, a video warning message at the Visitor Information Centre, interperative panels describing the ocean’s strength, improved communications with visitors and tour operators and a social media safety campaign.
Business Minister Mark Furey says the measures strike the right balance.
“It is really about informing visitors and mitigating risks and ensuring that they’re able to enjoy both continued public access and public safety.”
Rock barriers will also be installed to guide visitors towards warning signs.
The new safety measures cost about $40,000 and will be in place in the coming weeks.
An Ontario man died last April at Peggy’s Cove after he was swept into the ocean by a rogue wave.
